Community Outreach

Community Threads (CT) partners strives to help students earn their high school diploma no matter what obstacles they have faced in the past.

As a part of our curriculum we have two programs:
  • Student Tutorial Programs
  • Summer Youth Training Program (SYTP)
The Community Threads Character Training program was developed in part due to the poor academic achievement of students in the public schools. This low achievement is exacerbated in our community with the addition of drug abuse, economic depravity, social exclusion, teen pregnancy, school drop-outs, unemployment, and gang violence.  The program combines training in proper social habits and behavior, trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, justice, caring, honesty, courage, diligence, team work and integrity.

All youth involved in the warehouse/repairing project will be encouraged to finish or continue their education. Specifically, youth who are not high school graduates will receive application information from local LifeSkills Programs. Youth who have completed high school will receive application information for community colleges and/or career/technical colleges. CT is a community based organization that was founded to serve as an economic development complex designed to address several primary areas of business planning, development and implementation. As such, we have successfully been removing barriers of educational attainment and employment for people in our community.

Through dissemination of educational materials, job placements information, providing ongoing hands on experience in the world of work sure as: assembling projects using paper and verbal instructions, building small wooden items using  basic and major tools, and participating in workshops that are provided through-out the month for building confidences and skills for better living.

CT is a partner with No Limits, No Boundaries (NLNB) to assist our youth with issues of self esteem, criminal activity and corrective thinking of their young offender s ages 10-17 years of age.  CT after school program works collectively with parents, community professionals, community agencies, schools and law enforcement professionals to create culturally relative intervention plans for the low level offenders within the family unit. CT with NLNB makes a three year minimum commitment to each youth in the program.  This approach clearly gives the youth a solid alternative to community program abandonment. Furthermore, the programs we design takes into consideration that there are no medicinal cures and magic cures that change these youth and their behavior overnight or in just a few months. Community Threads allows the child to know that we care and our services show them how much.
